Introducing Tanya Fell, Author of 'Harry's Advententures Moving to Australia'

What was the inspiration for the story?

I speak with many families on my relocation calls about moving to Australia and one of my most asked questions is, how did harry manage with the move over? And the work I used to do with procedural support with children in the hospital, creating social stories to prep them for upcoming procedures made me realise there was a gap in helping prepare children with the move to Australia, hence the creation of this story book.

What is the key message in the book?

That children need to know and understand as much as they can about the move to Australia, let them get involved with some simple jobs, let them feel they have control in some small way about a big move they are going to go through.

What was your highlight in writing this book?

Writing it together. Me and Harry, couldn’t think of anything better.

What do you like to do when you are not writing?

When we don’t write we are busy enjoying our Australian life and exploring what Australia has to offer us. The country of adventure and opportunity.

What was your favourite book as a child?

Mine was Jacqueline Wilson the Tracy beaker books. Harrys current favourite book is Billionaire Boy by David Walliams.

Who is your favourite author and why?

So many good authors out there it would be too hard to choose. But I think David Walliams is up there for us at the moment, with his fun whit stories.

What do you hope your readers take away from this book?

That is a helpful simple step by step guide for any family thinking about moving, planning on moving or in the mix of moving. Hope it helps the family be prepared and understand the emotions involved with the move to a new country.

Where can readers find out more about you and your book?

We have our @harrysadventures.au Instagram and @fells_australianadventures Instagram and our website harrysadventures.com.au with lots of helpful information about the book and our family adventures.
